Christmas morning, we are on our way to Oxford for lunch and
Gareth is cooking. I am having this Christmas off. And it has been great not having to fuss over
menu and cooking.
Gareth greets us with a glass of Proseco and orange juice
and an array of meat, cheese platters. He has put out antipasti for nibbling on
while we chat and wait for lunch.
The lunch table was set up with simple table cloth and
crackers, it looked so casual and chic. It so suits his style of decorating
old and new, put together in a relaxed comfortable way.
Steak
was on the menu, I thought I might miss a roast and all the trimmings but when
we sat down to eat, they were all there.
A bowl of brussel sprouts with bacon, parsnips roasted with honey, and
the most amazing dauphinoise potatoes.( Gareth prepared them the day
before, the potatoes were washed and cut into thin slices. Layered with garlic seasoning and cream in
between each
layer. He then cooked them for half the
cooking time let them rest, then popped it in the fridge. To finish off the
next day.
Now the star of the show, the steak was amazing so tender
and he made a red wine jus with shallot onions. It was so tender, oh yes I have already made that statement but
it just melts with every bite.
I made chocolate cheese cake, it had to be gluten and wheat
free. I will post the recipe later in
the week, it was so rich, smooth creamy, just perfect. Well it does have melted Toblerone chocolate
in it.
This was a special day just being with the boys and watching
them having fun and making us laugh. That is what eating is about great food
and more important being with friends or family and building memories
