Greedy goose

Tesco has a new campaign on, the banner flying high as you walk through the doors says "Love food Stories "

My food story is a bitter, sweet one.

We decided to go to the Greedy Goose, Salford Hill, Chastleton. Just outside of Chipping Norton.  It is a lovely pub, it is situated on the rise of the hill, has loads of parking. But have to say we have never been further than the bar, not by choice tho. They seem to pack as many patrons as they can into the five small tables in the bar area. I have a theory that there is no other dinning room and just a big ball room, you know the kind you get in kids play rooms and you have to have a secret hand shake to get in.

We ordered our food, got our drinks and kicked back to wait the arrival of lunch.  The bar area started to fill up and there was a more mature couple seated next to us. The welly brigade including children, with friends and dogs were next.  It got pretty noisy at this stage and the dad of the two children was very hyper, maybe they don't take him out to often. .

At last our food arrived and my steak looked heavenly.  Look at the picture like it was cooked to perfection.  I was pretty excited and could not wait to see if it was as tender as it looked.  Pete's burger arrived and looked amazing, it smelled good to, like it had just been taken off the bbq.

So all was set for a meal that looked really promising. I picked up my cutlery and cut into the steak. The knife just cut through the steak like it was butter. Popped it in my mouth chewed and spat it into my serviette.

Someone in their wisdom had taken it upon themselves to put pesto all over the plate before adding the steak and salad to it. I just looked at it in disgust, thinking this is not an Italian restaurant. If it was I would expect pesto to creep in somewhere. I would still not be happy about it and there would be a conversation  asking not to have any put on my food. But not here I was sat in a pub with not of a hint of an Italian dish on the menu.  I mean how rude, they should state on the menu we add pesto to your lovely steak and spoil it for you.

Pesto - a sauce of crushed basil leaves, pine nuts, garlic, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil, typically served with pasta.( found this definition on the Internet) This only compounds my rant, put the pesto in the pasta, keep it away from my steak.

I would not normally dream of doing this but Pete offered to take on the salad, I then took a serviette and wiped my plate of the offending pesto. Yes, I did. Wiped that awful green sauce off the plate.

Once the plate was clear,  huge lashings of  pepper sauce all over the steak and chips. They are not shy with the pepper sauce either. It was one of the best steaks I have eaten and would definitely recommend that you go and have one.

But remember if you don't like pesto be sure to say when you put your order in.  My apologies to all the pesto lovers out there.

Enjoy
