Barratt's Restaurant & Rooms - Ty'n-Rhyl

The last day of our trip, it is dinner time and we were on the hunt for an eating experience. North Wales is very pretty but finding a plate of food that is more than just a burger, Indian and Pizza, is not easy. I have to  say that the look of some of the places, is not enticing.  That's when you have to resort to a picnic by the sea of cold meat and some cheese. So Aldi was our go to for dinner because we could not bear to eat what is on offer.

Luckily we got lost in Rhyl and I spotted a sign stating there was a restaurant and rooms, a quick U turn and we were rolling up the drive to a beautiful home.  It is lovely the drive leads to the back of the house. We got out of the car with great expectations. I mean it was a perfect setting, the birds are chirping, the garden looks like a place to sit and have a quite moment and reflect

We shown through the red door which proudly has a sign on it stating the house dates back to 1672 on it.

The entrance of the house has dark wood panelling and Elvira was happy to show us around the house. The formal dinning room, the front room and the library which you have to go through to get to the conservatory , where we were to have our meal.

Elvira brought little bites to eat while we were waiting for the meal. Pineapple wrapped in parma ham, the fish bite tasted like mackerel and pate on the others. This set the high standard for the meal to come.

  Starters

I ordered Asparagus soup and it had good honest flavours. The surprise to the soup was interesting in that there was the smooth soup, but thin slivers of asparagus which gave a bit of a crunch and the dill  added flavour.

Pete had Snails but with a twist, mushrooms, garlic and bacon. Visually it was stunning. I managed to get a taste and could see why I would not be invited to have a  second one.

Mains

Pete had shark (Shark was caught by a local builder who goes out fishing early hours of the morning) with mashed potato and king prawns, there was a lot of mmmm and this is so good going on.  I was offered a bite but I was enjoying my meal and did not want to add any other flavours to the mix.

I had Loin of spring lamb that was sourced locally sourced. Now I always bang on about the gravy being the one thing that brings a meal together. And I was in gravy heaven. I did not ask the chef (David) but it tasted like there was fennel in the lighter gravy or maybe licorice in the darker.  Chef if you read this let us know! There was another couple dinning with us and they had lamb as well. We were all just enthralled with the moment .... a plate of food that was visually perfect, smelt like good old fashion home cooking and tasted superb.

Desert was a fusion of art and taste that made eating it another memory of good honest food. I got lost in every mouth full of crème brulee, it was pure indulgence. The sorbet was refreshing and cleansing and left me feeling like the meal was rounded and complete.

Thank you Elvira and David for allowing us into your amazing home and for a meal that was a ray of hope in a otherwise wilderness of dismal, shabby pubs.
